Summers Last Hurrah: Elmwood Park Zoo
I can’t believe it is the last week of August! Where has the summer gone? This year we are going to try and fit in as much water activities as we can before the hot summer weather is gone. Usually when you think of water activities, you think of going to the pool or splash pad, but the Elmwood Park Zoo is one of our favorite spots to go to cool down on a hot summer day.
The zoo offers a variety of indoor and outdoor exhibits in the shade to ensure that you stay cool during your visit. The zoo has also introduced several water misters throughout the park this year making it a super fun time as you explore outside.
I would definitely suggest bringing a change of clothes if your toddler loves to get wet!!
Additionally, some of our favorite exhibits to visit at the zoo to cool down are the Wetlands, Trail of the Jaguar and the Wildlife Lodge.
The Wetlands is a shaded exhibit that features several animals that live near or in water. The infamous Crocodile and River Otters are a few that you will see here.
The trail of the Jaguar’s is an inside exhibit that features several jaguars and other animals that live in similar habitats. It is a nice place to cool off and get close and personal with some of the big cats.
Another great spot that you do not want to miss is the Thomas Kimmel Percussion Garden. It is a great interactive play space, in the shade, that children can make music with bells, chimes and drums.
The Elmwood park zoo is such a fun time! If you have never been I would highly suggest it! It is one of our all time favorite places to go! and it is a great place to cool off with your family during these last few weeks of summer.
We would love to hear about your favorite places to explore with your family during these hot summer days!
