Hiking with Kiddos: McKaig Nature Education Center
Brayden loves to go outside. He is so adventurous! He loves to explore every acorn and stick in our yard and neighborhood. There are so many benefits to having your child play outside, so I definitely want to keep encouraging him to love going outdoors while I still can.
According to Harvard University, studies show that taking your child outdoors enhances their creativity, imagination, attention span and socialization.
For the past couple of months, I have been researching kid friendly trails in Montgomery County and came across this hidden jem, The McKaig Nature Education Center.
We decided to check it out this morning and we had the BEST TIME!
McKaig is a visitor funded park with 3.2 Miles of trails. It has gravel trails filled with colorful signs, pictures and information about the habitat. The main trail follows a stream and offers great spots such as the “beach” to sit and enjoy the nature around you. Most of the trails are flat to moderate, making it a perfect place to explore with kiddos of all ages.
Is it located next to Roberts Elementary School in Wayne, PA. There is free parking available at Roberts Elementary during non-school hours.
I would definitely suggest to bring some water, a bucket to collect stuff and a good snack. 😉
McKaig offers an array of guided hikes and educational classes for kids and adults. For more information about McKaig Nature Education Center and the events they have available please visit their website, click here.
I would love to hear about your favorite hiking trails that you like to go on with your family!!
